Well, let me tell you, folks been askin’ ’bout Grand Canyon University, that GCU place, and whether they got themselves a football team. I hear that question a lot, ya know? GCU, GCU football, it’s all folks talk about these days, ‘specially ’round these parts. They say, “does GCU have a football team?” And you know what I gotta say to that? Nope, they sure don’t. No sir, no football team at that GCU.
Now, I ain’t no expert on these college things, but I done heard a thing or two. GCU, they in that big city, Phoenix. Big place, lots of sun, I reckon. And they got all sorts of other games there, just not football. They do other sports things. Lots of running and jumping, I suppose. But for football? Nothin’.

They got that soccer, though. Heard some fella, Felipe somethin’, signed up to play that. Kickin’ a ball around, that’s what they do. Seems like a good time, but it ain’t football. I heard some other things about GCU, too.
- They got some kinda clubs.
- Not that NCAA thing, somethin’ else.
- Lots of kids go there, I reckon.
- It’s a Christian school, so they do church stuff, too.
Folks talk ’bout that NCAA Division I thing. GCU is in that, whatever that means. Means they play with the big boys, I guess. But no football in that mix. Just those other sports. It’s a head-scratcher, ain’t it? Big school like that, no football. What’s the world comin’ to?
Someone said somethin’ about money. Maybe that’s it. Maybe football is just too darn expensive. Costs a lot to put all them boys in pads and helmets, I suppose. And them fields ain’t cheap either. So maybe that’s why no GCU football. Just too much money. GCU, they don’t do football, they do that Christian thing, so they say.
I heard they got all them other sports, though. Basketball, maybe? Baseball? I don’t rightly know. But they keep busy, I reckon. Just ’cause there ain’t no football don’t mean there ain’t nothin’ goin’ on at GCU. They probably have a good time without football at GCU.
That president fella, Brian somethin’, he said somethin’ ’bout it. Said no football ’cause it would cost too much, or somethin’ like that. Said it would mess up the other sports they got. So, no football for GCU. He’s the boss, I guess, so what he says goes. Still, seems a shame, don’t it? A big school like that, no football. Oh well. It is what it is, folks like to say.
Some folks, they don’t seem to mind. They say GCU is doin’ just fine without football. Lots of kids goin’ there, learnin’ things, gettin’ an education. That’s important, I suppose. More important than football, maybe. They say GCU is a good Christian school. That’s what they say.

- They got Chapel every week.
- And somethin’ called theGathering.
- Sounds like a hootenanny to me.
- They believe in that Jesus fella. Good for them.
So, there ya have it. GCU, that big school in Phoenix, they ain’t got no football team. They got other things, though. Soccer and clubs and church stuff. And lots of kids learnin’. So they’re doin’ alright, I reckon. Still, it’s a bit strange, ain’t it? No football at a big school like that. But that’s just the way it is. No use cryin’ over spilled milk, as they say. Or, in this case, no use cryin’ over no football, I reckon. GCU is just fine, I suppose. No football, though.
Folks around here, they still gonna ask about it, though. “Does GCU have a football team?” they’ll say. And I’ll tell ’em the same thing. Nope, no football at GCU. Maybe someday, but not today. They will have to just watch them other sports, I reckon. Or maybe play some football themselves, if they’re so inclined. It is good exercise and fun, ya know? But not at GCU. Not yet, anyway. Just remember, no football at GCU.
