So, I started off where everyone starts these days – the internet. I typed the question into the search bar and started scrolling through the results. I found some basic stuff at first, nothing too mind-blowing. It was all articles and lists, but they were kind of scratching the surface, you know?
Then, I stumbled upon this one study. It was breaking down the NFL rosters for 2024, and it had all the data laid out, state by state. I love it when I find some good raw data! This is where things started to get juicy.
First off, Texas was at the top of the list. And let me tell you, it wasn’t even close. I mean, we’re talking 304 players born in Texas, with Houston leading the pack as the city with the most players. 37 players, man, that’s wild! Next up was Florida, with 176 players. Again, not surprising. The weather’s perfect for year-round training, and there are tons of top-tier high school programs. I remember watching some of those Florida high school games, and those kids are no joke.
After that, California came in third with 168. California’s got a huge population and a ton of talent in all sports. And the competition there is fierce. I read somewhere that California’s crowned the birthplace for athletes in the US and that sounds about right.

So, after digging through all this, I felt like I finally had a solid answer. Texas is the king when it comes to producing NFL talent, followed by Florida and California. These states have the perfect storm of great high school programs, top-notch training facilities, and a culture that eats, sleeps, and breathes football.
