Alright, let’s talk about this NBA thing. You know, that basketball thingy all the young folks are crazy about. I hear them yelling “NBA! NBA!” all the time, so I figured I’d try and figure out what it all means. Heard it on the TV, too, so it must be somethin’ big.
So, I asked around, you know, poked my nose into other folks’ business a bit, and it seems like NBA stands for somethin’ big and fancy. Real long name, like them government fellas always use. They call it the National Basketball Association. Sounds important, right?
Now, what in the tarnation does that even mean? Well, from what I gathered, it’s a whole bunch of basketball teams, like, a whole lot of ‘em. They say there’s, uh, 30 of ‘em! Can you believe that? 30! And they play this basketball game, runnin’ up and down the court, throwin’ that orange ball into a hoop. Seems like a lot of work to me, but them fellas get paid a whole heap of money for it, so I guess it’s worth it to them.
And it ain’t just any basketball, mind you. This here NBA, they say it’s the best of the best. The tippy-top basketball players in the whole wide world, or so they say. They got fellas jumpin’ so high, they look like they gonna fly right outta the TV screen. And strong, too! Like bulls, they are. Pushing and shovin’ each other around.
This NBA, it’s been around for a good long while, too. They say it started way back in 1949. That’s before I was even born! So, it’s been around longer than I have. Imagine that. Started out with two groups fightin’ over who gets to play the basketball and then they decided to just join up together to form the NBA. That what I heard at the market anyway.
Now, they play all over the place. Mostly in America, but I hear there’s one team up in Canada too. Thirty teams in total, all playin’ their hearts out, trying to win that championship thingy. Seems like everyone wants that championship. They even give out a fancy trophy, real shiny and all. Must be worth a fortune, that trophy.

As long as they ain’t causin’ no trouble, I ain’t got no problem with it. Just don’t expect me to sit and watch it all day long. I got better things to do, like tendin’ to my garden and making sure the chickens don’t get into the neighbor’s yard again.
But I guess now I know what those letters mean. NBA. National Basketball Association. Big important basketball stuff. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make sure them young’uns aren’t makin’ too much noise watchin’ their NBA games.
Sometimes I think they are going to break the TV, all that yelling they do. Still, it is good they got somethin’ to keep them out of trouble, I guess. I remember when we didn’t even have a TV. Just the radio! And you know what? We still got the news and everything. Nowadays, kids are spoiled rotten. With their TVs and their radios and their, what-do-you-call-its, smartphones. Back in my day, we didn’t have none of that fancy stuff.
Anyway, NBA is a lot of words mushed up to make just three letters, National Basketball Association. That’s all it is. Now, you know, too. Just don’t let all this basketball hoopla go to your head, okay? There is more to life than watchin’ fellas throw a ball around.
