Alright, so you wanna know about them basketball fellas, the ones who used to play in the NBA, and this Jehovah’s Witness thing, right? Okay, okay, I’ll tell ya what I know. It ain’t gonna be fancy, mind you, just plain talk like we’re sittin’ on the porch swing.
So, there’s this thing called Jehovah’s Witnesses. It’s a kind of church, I guess you could say. And some of them fellas who used to bounce that ball around for a living, they’re part of it. Big strong guys, some of ’em, runnin’ up and down the court, and then they go to church and listen to the Bible. Ain’t that somethin’?

Now, I heard tell there ain’t a whole bunch of ’em. Not like a whole team or nothin’. More like, a few here and there. They say there’s this fella, A.C. Green. Played for the Lakers, won a bunch of championships. He’s a Jehovah’s Witness, they say. Big fella, I bet. And he was real serious about his church stuff. Didn’t do things some other fellas did, you know what I mean? Kept himself clean, they say.
- A.C. Green: Lakers Champ, Real Serious About His Faith
- Danny Granger: Indiana Pacer, Jehovah’s Witness Too
- Darren Collison: Another Pacer, Same Church
- Dewayne Dedmon: Miami Heat, One of ‘Em Now
Then there’s these other two guys, Danny Granger and Darren Collison. Played for the Pacers, I think. Same church. See, it ain’t just one fella. There’s a few of ’em. Makes you think, don’t it? All that fame and money, and they still got their church. Must be somethin’ to it.
And there’s this other fella, plays now, I think. Dewayne Dedmon, plays for the Heat. He’s one of ’em too. So it ain’t just old-timers, it’s fellas playin’ right now, too.
Now, why they do it, that’s their business, I reckon. But it seems like it means somethin’ to ’em. Keeps ’em grounded, maybe. Life in the NBA, that’s gotta be a whirlwind. All that travelin’ and cheerin’ and pressure. Maybe havin’ that church, that Jehovah’s Witness thing, maybe it helps ’em keep their heads on straight.
I ain’t sayin’ I know all the ins and outs of it, mind you. I’m just tellin’ you what I heard. But it sounds like these fellas, they found somethin’ that works for ’em. Somethin’ bigger than basketball, bigger than all that fame. And that’s gotta be a good thing, right?
So, how many ex-NBA players are Jehovah’s Witnesses? Well, like I said, it ain’t a whole heap of ’em. But there’s a few. A.C. Green, that’s the one they talk about the most. Then Granger and Collison. And now Dedmon. Maybe there’s more, I don’t know. But those are the ones I heard about. They played hard, they were famous, and now they live their lives and follow their beliefs. That’s the long and short of it, as best as I can tell ya.

So, there you have it. Not a whole lot, but some. And it seems like it’s important to them. More important than all the fancy moves and slam dunks, I guess. And that’s that.
Now, don’t go quotin’ me on all this. I’m just an old woman, I just hear things and tell ’em like I see ’em. You wanted to know about these fellas, and I told you. Go ask them if you want the real story. But that’s what I know about them NBA fellas and that Jehovah’s Witness thing.
