Alright, so the other day I was down a YouTube rabbit hole, as one does, and I stumbled upon this crazy NBA dunk montage. The editing was insane, the music was hype, and I just thought, “I gotta try to make something like that!”
So, first things first, I needed some footage. I spent a good few hours just browsing YouTube, looking for the nastiest, most poster-worthy dunks I could find. You know, the ones where the defender just gets absolutely obliterated. I’m talking Vince Carter, Michael Jordan, LeBron James – the GOATs of getting dunked on.
Once I had a decent collection of clips, I pulled them all into my editing software. Now, I’m no pro editor, so this was definitely the trickiest part. I started by just laying out the clips in a way that felt kinda natural, trying to match the energy of the dunks. I would say, “This is my first step for all the work, and it’s kind of essential.”
The Music Really Matter
Next up was the music. This is crucial for a good montage, right? It has to get you pumped! I went through a bunch of different tracks, trying to find something that had that perfect mix of energy and impact. Eventually, I found this one beat that just felt right. I started by just laying out the clips in a way that felt kinda natural, trying to match the energy of the dunks. I would say, “The Music is as important as vedio clips themselves”.
- Find some really AWESOME NBA dunks.
- Put those videos into whatever editor software.
- Find the right music.
- Put it all together!
Then came the fun part – the editing! I spent a good chunk of time messing around with different effects, transitions, and slow-motion replays. I wanted to make sure those moments of impact really popped. I’m not gonna lie, it was a lot of trial and error. Some things looked awesome, others…not so much. I’m pretty sure, I kept repeating myself, “I am getting better”.
Finally, after what felt like forever, I had something I was pretty happy with. It wasn’t perfect, but it definitely captured that hype energy I was going for. It was a super fun project, and it definitely made me appreciate the skill of those video editors who make those insane montages. I’m so excited to share this with you all!
