Why do people think the NFL is scripted? That’s a question my grandson, Timmy, asked me the other day. He’s always on about that football. I told him, “Timmy, you spend too much time thinking about that stuff.” But it got me thinking, why do folks think like that about the NFL? It’s a rough game, that’s for sure. Lots of pushing and shoving.
Some folks reckon it’s all made up, like them wrestling shows. They say it’s all for show, that NFL is scripted just for making money. They say, “Look at them players, acting all hurt and such.” But I seen a game once, those boys hit hard. Harder than my old man’s belt, that’s for sure.
I heard some people on the radio, talking about this NFL scripted thing. They say there’s proof, some kinda “evidence.” Evidence of what, I don’t know. Maybe someone told the players what to do? Like a play? But ain’t that what a coach is for? To tell them boys how to play? They practice those plays, over and over, makes sense to me that they are scripted plays, but does that mean the NFL is scripted? My head hurts thinking about all this. It’s like trying to catch a greased pig, this whole thing.
- Some folks say it’s all planned out.
- They say the players are just acting.
- Others say it’s just a game.
- That the players are not good.
Now, that Arian Foster, he used to play for them Houston Texans. He said something about the NFL being fake, or something like that. But he was probably just pulling our legs. He’s a funny one, that Arian. Always making jokes. But some folks, they took him serious. They think he spilled the beans, that he told the truth. Maybe he knows something we don’t, maybe the NFL is scripted, I don’t know. This is just a guess, you know, just like old Mary’s lottery numbers. She always thinks she’s gonna win, but she never does.
I remember one time, my husband, bless his soul, he took me to a game. It was loud, and there were so many people. And the players, they were big! Bigger than my prize-winning pumpkin at the county fair. And they ran fast. Faster than a chicken with its head cut off. It was exciting, I gotta say. Even I got caught up in it, yelling and screaming with everyone else.
But is the NFL scripted? I don’t know. It’s a tough one. Maybe it’s a little bit of both. Maybe they plan some things, but not everything. Like when my daughter makes her apple pie, she plans the recipe, but sometimes the apples are sour, and she has to add more sugar. Maybe it’s like that.
People like watching football, that’s for sure. It’s exciting. They like the hitting and the running and the touchdowns. It’s like a story, with good guys and bad guys. I guess people like a good story, even if they think the NFL is scripted. They watch it with their families, pass it down from generation to generation. Like my old quilt, that thing’s been in the family for years. Football’s like that, a tradition.
And those players, they work hard. They train and they practice, and they get hurt. I seen it on the TV, them getting carted off the field. That ain’t acting, that’s real pain. So maybe the NFL isn’t all fake. Maybe it’s like life, some good, some bad, some planned, some not. That makes people think the NFL is scripted, maybe. Like when you plant your tomatoes, you plan where they go, but you don’t know if they’ll get eaten by the deer. I have no idea, though. I’m just guessing here.
But this whole NFL scripted thing, it’s got people talking. It’s like a big mystery. Everyone’s got their own opinion. Just like when we’re at the church potluck, everyone’s got their own recipe for potato salad. Some like it with mustard, some like it with relish.
I guess it doesn’t really matter if the NFL is scripted or not. People will still watch it. They’ll still cheer for their teams. They’ll still argue about the calls. It’s just something to do, something to talk about. Like the weather, or the price of eggs.
So, is the NFL scripted? Who knows. Maybe we’ll never know for sure. But it’s sure fun to think about. And that’s all that matters, I guess. Just like my stories, they might not all be true, but they’re sure fun to tell. And people like to listen. Just like they like to watch football.
That’s all I know. Don’t ask me no more questions about it, I’m tired of thinking about that NFL scripted thing. I got more important things to worry about, like whether or not I should plant my petunias this week.
