So, I’m a huge NBA fan, right? And I’m always checking the schedule to see what games are on. I noticed something weird this weekend – there weren’t any games! I was like, “What’s going on?”
I did some digging to get to the bottom of it. I started looking around to figure out why the NBA would take a whole weekend off. Turns out it wasn’t just this weekend. I found out that there weren’t any games on Tuesday either.
Turns out, it’s because of Election Day here in the U.S. They started doing this back in the 2022-23 season, and it looks like they’re keeping it going. I guess the NBA wants people to focus on voting, which is cool.
Why No Games on Election Day?
So, why did they decide to do this? Well, I found out that they started this back in 2022. They basically said they wanted to encourage people to vote and wanted to give teams a break to do their civic duty.
- It’s all about voting: No games on Election Day so everyone can vote.
- It’s been going on for a few years: They started doing this in 2022.
- Games are back on Wednesday: The NBA will be back in full swing after Election Day.
I was thinking maybe it had something to do with some crazy weather or something, because sometimes games get postponed because of storms or other issues. I even heard about a game between the Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks that got postponed because of a winter storm a while back. I also recall that three NBA games were removed from the schedule due to Georgia storms and California wildfires. But, nah, this was a planned thing.
Usually, when there are blackouts, it’s because the games are on local channels or regional networks. Also, the NBA recommends arriving 45-60 minutes before tipoff. But none of that was the reason for the empty schedule this week.
It’s interesting that they’re making this a regular thing. I mean, I love watching basketball, but I guess voting is pretty important too. So, yeah, that’s why there were no NBA games this weekend or on Tuesday. It’s all about Election Day!
Anyway, I thought that was kind of interesting, so I figured I’d share what I found out. I know I’ll be watching when they’re back on Wednesday!
