Okay, so I was digging into this whole Navy football team thing and wanted to figure out how many Marines might be on the roster. Here’s how I went about it:
First Steps: Checking the Obvious
I started by hitting up the official Navy Athletics website. Figured that would be the most, you know, official place to get the info. I looked for the football team’s roster, hoping they’d have some kind of breakdown of who’s in the Navy and who’s in the Marine Corps.

Diving Deeper
The website was a start, but it wasn’t super clear. Most of players’ profiles is Navy. So I went down the rabbit hole of news articles, message boards, and that sort of thing. I was searching for anything mentioning Marines playing for Navy.
The Tricky Part
Here’s the thing I bumped into: The Naval Academy is, well, the Naval Academy. I found the difference is, most of the students there, the midshipmen, are training to become officers in the Navy. But you’ll also find some students there planning to become officers in the Marine Corps.
It’s all part of the same school, but they have different career paths after graduation. So, technically, any midshipman playing football could eventually become a Marine, but they aren’t Marines yet.
- Naval Academy has both future Navy and Marine Corps officers.
- Football team is made up of midshipmen (students).
- Midshipmen aren’t technically Marines (yet).
My Best Guess
Based on what I could find, I’d say it’s unlikely there are any active-duty Marines on the Navy football team. The players are students at the Naval Academy. They might become Marines later, but while they’re playing football, they’re still midshipmen.
It is a little confusing, I have to use the keyword “active-duty” to make it clear. But that’s the gist of what I figured out!
