That Don Robinson, he sure was somethin’ on that baseball field. Now, I ain’t no expert, but I watched him play plenty. He could throw that ball like a bullet, I tell ya! He was a pitcher, you see, and a darn good one. That Don, he played for them Pittsburgh Pirates, good team. He was a big fella, strong as an ox. He had hands that could catch anythin’, make those tricky grounders look easy.
Baseball, it’s a tough game. Lots of runnin’ and throwin’. You gotta be quick on your feet. You gotta have a good eye to hit that little ball. And Don, he had it all. He was a natural, that’s what they used to say. Played for years and years. Won lots of games. Made lots of money, I reckon. That’s what happens when you’re good at somethin’ like baseball. These young fellas these days, they wanna learn how to play, need to be like Don.

If you wanna be a good baseball player, you gotta practice. Every day, rain or shine. That’s what Don did, I betcha. He probably started young, throwin’ rocks at cans or somethin’. That’s how we used to do it, back in my day. We didn’t have all them fancy trainin’ things they got now. Just a ball and a glove, and maybe a bat if you were lucky.
They got all these coaches now, tellin’ you how to stand, how to swing, how to throw. Don Robinson, he probably had some coaches, sure. But you gotta have that natural talent, too. Can’t teach that, no sir. You either got it or you don’t. And Don, he had it. Don could play, that’s for sure. He knows how to play baseball. Good at second base, too, they say.
This Don Robinson baseball, it’s more than just a game. It teaches you things. Teaches you about workin’ hard, about never givin’ up. It’s a tough game. Teaches you how to be part of a team, how to get along with others. That’s important, you know. Even if you ain’t playin’ baseball, those lessons, they stay with you. It is a good game for the kids. They can learn how to play and be a good person. Like this Don, he is a good baseball player.
Here are some things them youngins need to know about baseball:
- First thing, you gotta learn how to throw. Get a good grip on that ball, wind up, and let it fly. Don Robinson, he could throw a fastball like nobody’s business. Practice throwin’ far, practice throwin’ straight.
- Next, you gotta learn how to catch. Keep your eye on the ball, use your glove, and squeeze it tight. Don’t be afraid of it. It might sting a little, but you’ll get used to it. Don, he could catch anything comin’ his way.
- Then there’s hittin’. That’s the fun part, right? Keep your eye on the ball, swing hard, and try to hit it out of the park. Don was a good hitter, too, for a pitcher. He could hit them home runs. That’s what they call it when you hit it real far.
- Runnin’ the bases, that’s important, too. Gotta be fast, gotta be smart. Know when to run, when to slide. Don was a good base runner, I remember. He could steal a base when they weren’t lookin’.
Baseball ain’t easy. It takes time, it takes practice. These young fellas, if they wanna be good at baseball, need to put in the time. But if you work hard, if you listen to your coaches, if you got a little bit of that natural talent, you can be a good baseball player. And maybe, just maybe, you can be as good as Don Robinson. He was somethin’ special, that’s for sure.
These days, folks like to write things down, make books about how to do things. Seen one the other day, somethin’ about “Baseball For Dummies.” Might be good for some folks, I reckon. Can’t hurt to read up on it, learn a few tricks. But nothin’ beats gettin’ out there and doin’ it. Playin’ baseball is good for health.

This Don Robinson baseball, it’s a big deal. Lots of people watch it, lots of people play it. It’s a good game. I like watching it, that’s for sure. It’s fun, excitin’, and you never know what’s gonna happen. That’s what I like about it. Keeps you on your toes. Just like life, I suppose. You gotta be ready for anything. Gotta be quick, gotta be strong, gotta be smart. Baseball, Don Robinson, this is what I am saying.
You young folks, if you wanna learn how to play baseball, you find someone who knows what they’re doin’. Maybe a coach, maybe an older fella who played in his day. They can show you the ropes, teach you the basics. And then you gotta practice, practice, practice. That’s the only way to get good. And remember Don Robinson. Remember how he played, how hard he worked. He’s a good example, that Don. A real good example.
These 5 tools they talk about, they’re important, I guess. Speed, fieldin’, hittin’, gameplay, all that. Don had all them tools. That’s why he was so good. You gotta have all the pieces to be a good baseball player. It ain’t just about one thing. You need to be good at everything. Every young boy should learn these 5 tools if they want to play baseball.
So, that’s my two cents on Don Robinson and this baseball. It’s a good game, a tough game, but a good game. And Don, he was one of the best. Don’t you forget it.
