Well, now, folks, if you’re here lookin’ to get the lowdown on Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, you came to the right place. Now, don’t be expectin’ no fancy talk or big words from me, I’m just gonna lay it out plain and simple. So, let’s take a good ol’ look at these two fellas and see who’s who, huh?
First off, we got Kevin Durant. This young man, born September 29, is known all over for his tall frame and smooth playin’ style. He’s got that 6’10” frame, and he sure knows how to use it, especially when he’s shootin’ them three-pointers. They say he’s got one of the sweetest jump shots in the game, and I gotta agree with ‘em. He’s played with a lot of teams, but the one that stands out the most is when he joined up with the Golden State Warriors. Some folks say he took the easy way out, but he sure won a lot of championships there, didn’t he? Four-time NBA scoring champ, two-time NBA Finals MVP—ain’t too many folks can say that.

But hold up, now, don’t go forgettin’ about Russell Westbrook. This fella, he’s got a whole lotta fire in him. He ain’t tall like Durant, but what he lacks in height, he more than makes up for in heart. Westbrook, now, he’s a triple-double machine. Folks love to talk about his energy, his speed, and the way he just bullies his way down the court. You see him on a fast break, and it’s like a tornado comin’ through. He’s got a mean streak in him, too. He’s the kind of guy that ain’t afraid to get in your face and let you know he’s comin’.
Now, when we compare these two fellas head to head, there’s a lotta things to talk about. If you look at their points per game, Durant’s sittin’ at 31, and Westbrook’s not too far behind at 25.8. But the thing is, Durant’s a little more efficient with his shootin’. He’s hittin’ 54% of his shots, and when he’s out there shootin’ them threes, he’s at almost 48%. Westbrook, on the other hand, his shooting percentage is a little lower—42%. But don’t let that fool ya, Westbrook gets a lotta his points from takin’ it hard to the rim, or dishin’ out assists.
And you can’t talk about these two without mentionin’ their time together back in the day when they was on the Oklahoma City Thunder. Them two were quite the duo, weren’t they? Durant and Westbrook, they made a lotta noise in the league. That 2011-12 NBA Finals, well, that was somethin’. Westbrook averaged 27 points per game that series. But even though they didn’t win the big one that year, there was still a lotta promise with them two runnin’ together. Ain’t no wonder folks still talk about it today.
So, what’s the deal with their playin’ styles? Well, Durant’s more of a finesse player, y’know? He ain’t gonna get too physical with ya, but he’ll burn you with that smooth jump shot. He can score from anywhere on the court, and when it comes to crunch time, you want him takin’ that shot. Westbrook, though, he’s the opposite. He’s all heart, all hustle, all the time. He’ll run you down, break your ankles, and if you get in his way, you better be ready for a fight. His defense, though, can’t be overlooked either. He’ll give you a hard time if you’re tryin’ to score on him. But sometimes, he can get a little too wild, and that’s when them turnovers start addin’ up.
Let’s take a look at their numbers against each other. When they’re goin’ head to head, Durant’s averaged 32 points a game, and Westbrook’s got 28.3. Durant also pulls down more rebounds at 8.6, compared to Westbrook’s 10.1, but Russell’s got more assists at 9.3. So, if you’re lookin’ for someone who can do it all, Westbrook might be your guy, but if you’re lookin’ for a pure scorer, Durant’s got that locked up. The truth is, both of ‘em are pretty dang good at what they do.
Now, one thing that stands out about these two is their character on the court. People love to talk about the “beef” between them, especially since Durant left Oklahoma City for Golden State. But Westbrook, he’s always been pretty clear that there ain’t no bad blood between the two of ’em. He’s said a few times that he respects Durant and what he’s done in his career. And I reckon that’s the way it should be. Ain’t no reason to hold a grudge when it’s all about the game, right?

In the end, though, it really comes down to what you like in a player. If you want someone who’s gonna get you points every time down the court and shoot over just about anyone, well, Durant’s your man. But if you want someone who’s gonna give you everything he’s got and make sure the other team knows he’s comin’, well, then Westbrook’s the guy. Both of ‘em have had some great moments, but which one is better? That’s somethin’ folks will be arguin’ about for a long time. Me? I reckon both of ’em are mighty fine players, and I ain’t gonna pick one over the other. It’s just a matter of what kind of game you wanna see.
