Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this “formula one nascar” idea, trying to see if I could somehow combine data or concepts from both. It’s been a wild ride, let me tell you.
Getting Started
First, I grabbed some basic data. I mean, I literally just went to the official websites and started copying stuff – lap times, race results, driver stats, you name it. It was a mess, a total data dump.

Cleaning it Up
Then came the painful part. I had to clean up all this information. Different formats, different units…ugh. I spent hours just getting everything into a somewhat usable state. Think spreadsheets, lots and lots of spreadsheets.
Trying to Find Connections
- I started by looking at simple stuff. Like, comparing average speeds. Formula 1 cars are obviously faster on their tracks, but I wanted to see the actual numbers.
- Then I tried to get fancy. I looked at things like tire wear, fuel consumption, and pit stop strategies. The idea was to see if there were any hidden patterns or similarities.
- Honestly a lot of dead ends, the two racing disciplines are different.
Building Something…Maybe?
After all that digging, I attempted to build a really simple model. Just something that could, I don’t know, predict race outcomes based on a mix of F1 and NASCAR data. It’s super basic, more like a toy than a real tool.
What I’ve Found
The differences are HUGE. It’s like trying to mix oil and water. Different cars, different tracks, different everything.
This whole thing was more of a fun experiment than a serious project. It was cool to dive into the data, but I am not really sure. It is a start I guess.
