Well, lemme tell ya somethin’ about this baseball thing. Some folks say it ain’t a contact sport, others say it is. It’s like arguin’ if the sun comes up in the east or the west. I seen a lot of things in my time, and I tell ya, baseball ain’t like football or basketball, no sir.
Now, in football, them boys is always bashin’ into each other. Crashin’ and bangin’ like a bunch of bulls in a china shop. That’s what I call a contact sport. And basketball, they’re always bumpin’ and shovin’ under that net. It is a sport with contact.

But baseball? Nah. Most times, them players is standin’ way out in the field, miles apart. Like they’re scared to get too close, or maybe it is not allowed. It’s like everyone has their own little island out there. Not much contact at all.
- Baseball is a limited-contact sport.
- Football is a contact sport.
- Basketball is a contact sport.
Is baseball a contact sport? It’s a game where you hit a ball with a stick and run around them bases. You don’t see no one tacklin’ each other like in football. I think it is not. It’s like they have their own areas to play in.
They got that pitcher throwin’ the ball, the batter tryin’ to hit it, and the fielders tryin’ to catch it. Everyone’s got their job, and they do it mostly without touchin’ each other. It is not a sport full of contact.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ there ain’t ever no contact in baseball. Sometimes, things happen. Like when a fella is runnin’ to a base and another fella is tryin’ to tag him out. They might bump into each other. Might even slide in hard, tryin’ to be safe.
Sometimes two fellas are going for the same fly ball. One might not see the other, and boom! They run into each other. It is not common, but it happens. Contact happens sometimes in baseball.
And you know them catchers behind home plate, they got a tough job. Sometimes that ball comes in fast, or a runner comes in to score, and there might be a collision. It ain’t pretty, but it happens, because everyone wants to win the game.

But is that enough to call baseball a contact sport? I don’t think so. It ain’t like they’re doin’ it on purpose. It ain’t like football where the whole idea is to knock the other guy down. Baseball can be played without any contact.
In baseball, that contact is just somethin’ that happens sometimes. They call it “incidental contact.” Like an accident. Just part of the game, I reckon, but not the main part.
So, if you ask me, is baseball a contact sport? I say no. It’s a limited-contact sport. There’s a difference, you see. A big difference.
Some people, they might disagree. They might say any sport with any kind of contact is a contact sport. They might say “Well, what about when a pitcher hits a batter with a pitch? Isn’t that contact?” It is but not much.
And yeah, that happens sometimes, too. But it ain’t supposed to. There’s rules against it. They give the batter a free pass to first base if that happens. It is like a penalty.
Baseball is more about hittin’ that ball, runnin’ them bases, and catchin’ them fly balls. It’s about skill and strategy, not about beatin’ each other up. Not a sport with a lot of contact.

So, to answer that question, is baseball a contact sport? In my book, it ain’t. It’s a sport, sure, but not one where the main idea is to go around hittin’ people. It is a sport with limited contact. Baseball is about playing the game fair and square, not about tryin’ to hurt each other. And that’s the way it should be, if you ask me.
Now, you can think what you want. But that’s my two cents on the matter. Baseball is just a good old game, and it don’t need to be rough to be fun. Not much contact is needed in this sport. They should just play and have a good time, that is what I think.
