Has Ippo Come Back to Boxing? The Big Question for Us Fans
Alright, so listen up. Everyone’s been yappin’ and yappin’ about this Ippo fella. Is he gonna box again, or what? It’s like waitin’ for the rain in a drought, this waitin’ for him to get back in that ring.

I hear tell that Ippo, he lost a few times. Yeah, lost to some guys named Wolli and Sendo, I think. And some other fellas too, one from Mexico and another one, a Filipino champ. Sounds like he had some tough luck, that boy. But losin’ ain’t the end of the world, y’know? Even the best roosters lose a fight now and then.
- The Losses: Seems like Ippo got knocked down a peg or two. Heard he lost to Eiji Date tryin’ to get that Japan featherweight title. Then some Mexican fella, Alfredo Gonzales, gave him a whuppin’. And that Filipino champ, Antonio Guevara, he got Ippo too after Ippo took a break.
- The Rumors: Folks keep whisperin’ that Ippo’s comin’ back. Been hearin’ that for years now. Like a broken record, it is. They keep hintin’ and hintin’, but nothin’ solid. Kinda like promisin’ candy to a kid and then not givin’ it. It ain’t right.
Now, some folks, they say Ippo’s gotta come back and get knocked out. That’s a harsh way of lookin’ at it, I reckon. They say he ain’t got the fire in his belly no more, that he’s fightin’ for fun and not ’cause he has to. Well, I say everyone’s got their reasons for doin’ things. Maybe Ippo just needs to find his again.
Then there’s this Sendo fella. He’s been beatin’ up on Mexican boxers and climbin’ the ranks. Heard he’s just itchin’ for a rematch with Ippo. They even sparred, and it was pretty even, they say. ‘Cept Ippo wasn’t messed up with that punch-drunk stuff then. So, maybe Sendo’s a good reason for Ippo to come back, show him who’s boss.
But here’s the thing. They say Ippo ain’t comin’ back anytime soon. Maybe not ’til late 2024, at the earliest. And that’s fine, I guess. Good things take time, like growin’ corn or makin’ a good stew. You can’t rush it. The story’s been buildin’ up real good, slow and steady.
The Manga Artist and the Ending
Now, the fella who draws this Ippo story, George Morikawa, he says he knows how it’s gonna end. But he don’t know when. He wants to finish it quick, while he still can, y’know, before he gets too old and shaky. So, that means Ippo’s gotta come back sometime, right? Can’t have an endin’ without the main fella fightin’ one last time.

My Two Cents
So, will Ippo return to boxing? I ain’t got a crystal ball, but I think he will. He’s got too much fight left in him. He just needs to find it again, light that fire under his belly. Maybe Sendo will push him, or maybe he’ll just get tired of sittin’ around. Whatever it is, I’ll be waitin’ and watchin’. Just hope it ain’t too long, ’cause this old lady ain’t gettin’ any younger, y’know? I wanna see Ippo box again before I kick the bucket.
What We All Want
We, the fans, we want to see Ippo back in the ring. We want that excitement, that thrill of the fight. We want to see him overcome those losses, prove them wrong. And maybe, just maybe, become a champ again. It ain’t about the knockouts, it’s about the fight, the spirit, the gettin’ back up when you’ve been knocked down. That’s what Ippo’s all about, and that’s why we love him. So yeah, we’re eagerly waitin’ for Ippo’s boxing return, hopefully, it’s a glorious one! And I hope that artist fella hurries up and finishes the story before I’m too old to see it!
