So, I’ve been getting really into F1 2023 lately, right? It’s a blast, but I realized I was relying way too much on that racing line. You know, the one that shows you the “ideal” path around the track? Yeah, that thing. It was like a crutch, and I wanted to really learn the tracks and get better. So I thought, “Time to turn this bad boy off.”
First off, let me tell you, turning off the racing line is a humbling experience. I thought I was decent, but without that line, I was all over the place. My first few laps on any given track after turning off the racing line were a real struggle. But, I was determined. I started by using those 100m and 50m boards as my initial braking references. Those things are lifesavers, seriously.

I spent a good chunk of time just driving, making mental notes of where to brake, where to turn in, all that jazz. It was a process of trial and error. A lot of errors, if I’m being honest. But, slowly but surely, I started to get a feel for it. I began to “imagine” the racing line, even though it wasn’t there. Sounds kinda weird, but it helped, really helped.
Here’s what I did, step by step:
- Turned off the racing line in the assists menu. Pretty straightforward, just go to the settings, find the assists, and there it is. You can turn it off completely, or just for corners, or change it from 2D to 3D. I went cold turkey and turned it off completely.
- Used the distance boards. Like I said, those 100m and 50m boards became my best friends. I started braking when I thought I should, based on those, and then adjusted from there.
- Focused on corner entry and exit. I remembered some advice about taking corners from the outside in. So, I focused on hitting the apex and then looking towards the exit of the corner. It’s like, let the car naturally flow out of the corner.
- Lots and lots of practice. I just kept driving, man. Lap after lap, track after track. Each time, I’d refine my braking points, my turn-in points, everything.
It was tough, I won’t lie. But it was also super rewarding. I felt like I was actually learning the tracks, not just following a line. And you know what? My lap times started improving. Not drastically, but it was noticeable. More importantly, I was having more fun. I felt more in control, more engaged.
So, if you’re thinking about turning off the racing line in F1 2023, I say go for it. It’s a challenge, but it’s worth it. Just be patient, use those distance boards, and focus on the basics. You’ll get there. And when you do, it’s a great feeling. Just like you’ve truly mastered something, you know?
Keep practicing, and most importantly, have fun out there on the track! The most important is you feel happy about the process! This is why we play the games, right?
