Okay, so I’ve always wanted to try making those super cute decorated cookies you see online. I’m a huge football fan, so I thought, why not combine my two loves? I decided to tackle football-themed cookies, and let me tell you, it was a bit of an adventure!
Getting Started
First, I gathered all my supplies. I already had a basic sugar cookie recipe that I like, so I whipped up a batch of dough. The key here is to make sure the dough is chilled properly – otherwise, your cookies will spread out too much in the oven and lose their shape. I learned that the hard way, believe me.

While the dough was chilling, I grabbed my cookie cutters. Obviously, I had a football-shaped one, but I also used a simple circle for some variety. I rolled out the dough and started cutting out the shapes. I made sure to keep the dough thickness consistent so they’d bake evenly.
Baking Time
Into the oven they went! I followed the recipe’s baking time, but I always keep a close eye on them. Every oven is different, you know? I wanted them to be lightly golden brown around the edges.
The Fun Part: Decorating!
This is where things got interesting. I made royal icing, which is basically powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water. It’s the perfect consistency for decorating. I divided the icing into different bowls and added food coloring. I needed brown for the footballs, white for the laces, and green for some grass-themed cookies.
- Brown Icing: I used a piping bag with a small round tip to outline and flood the football-shaped cookies. It took a few tries to get the hang of it, but I eventually found a rhythm.
- White Icing: Once the brown icing had set a bit, I used a smaller tip to pipe the laces on the football. This was definitely the trickiest part! My hands were a little shaky at first.
- Green Icing:For the circle cookies,I make the green icing, and draw some white lines to make it looks like playground.
I let the cookies dry completely overnight. That’s super important, or the icing will smudge. And then, I looked my * looks great and delicious!
The Final Result
Honestly, they weren’t perfect. My laces weren’t exactly straight, and some of the icing was a little bumpy. But you know what? They were homemade, and they were fun to make! And most importantly, they tasted delicious. It was a learning experience, and I’m already planning my next batch – maybe I’ll try basketballs next time!
