Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my rackets lately, trying to fine-tune everything. And it got me thinking, how much do the strings actually weigh? I mean, it’s gotta add something, right?
So, I grabbed my scale – you know, the kitchen one I use for, uh, “healthy” cooking. I zeroed it out and everything. First, I weighed one of my rackets that was freshly strung. Let’s call it Racket A. It came in at, like, 340 grams.

Then, I took another one of my rackets (Racket B), which needed re-stringing anyway. Time for some surgery! I carefully cut out all the old strings. Man, that took a little longer than I expected. Gotta be careful not to scratch the frame.
After I got all the strings out, I put Racket B on the scale. This time, it was about 325 grams.
The Big Reveal
- Racket A (with strings): 340 grams
- Racket B (without strings): 325 grams
Simple math, right? 340 – 325 = 15 grams. So, it looks like the strings added roughly 15 grams to my racket. Seems to be right around what it should be.
Now, I know this isn’t super scientific. Different strings, different tensions… all that stuff probably plays a role. But hey, it gives me a pretty good ballpark figure. It’s cool to see how much weight those thin little things actually add!
