Alright, let’s gab about how much them NBA announcers rake in, you know, the fellas who yap on TV while them basketball players run around. Don’t expect no fancy book learnin’ words from me, I’m just gonna tell it like it is.
So, How Much Dough They Get?

Well, it ain’t like them basketball stars, that’s for sure. Them players get paid millions and millions, buyin’ fancy cars and big houses. The announcers? They get a good chunk of change, but nothin’ like that. It’s more like… well, let me put it this way.
Some folks say the average announcer guy gets around eighty thousand dollars a year, maybe a hundred thousand if they’re good. That’s eighty thousand with three zeros after it, you hear? Now, that sounds like a lot of money to folks like me, but in the world of them TV folks, it ain’t all that much. They say some of them fellas get paid by the week, maybe fifteen hundred a week. That’s fifteen with two zeros, every week! Can you imagine?
- Eighty thousand a year, that’s what some say.
- Some other fellas say maybe a hundred thousand if they are good at their job.
- Fifteen hundred a week is another number I heard. It’s a lot of money.
The Big Shots, They Get More
Now, them fellas you see on the big games, the ones everybody knows? They get paid more, way more. I heard tell of one fella, he does that Monday night football thing, he gets like, twelve to fifteen million a year! Twelve million! That’s twelve with six zeros! Can you even picture that much money? I can’t, it’s just too much for my brain. I reckon them top NBA announcer fellas, they ain’t gettin’ that much, but they’re gettin’ a good bit more than the regular announcers, you betcha.
It Ain’t Easy Money, Though
Don’t you go thinkin’ it’s easy money, though. These announcers, they gotta know their basketball. They gotta know all them players’ names, all them plays, all them rules. And they gotta talk, talk, talk, the whole game! It ain’t like sittin’ on the porch swing and chattin’ with your neighbors. They gotta be quick-witted, gotta be smart, gotta be able to make it sound excitin’, even when the game is a snoozer. And they travel all over the place, leavin’ their families behind. It ain’t a life for everyone, that’s for sure.
More Than Just Announcin’
And it ain’t just about announcin’ the game, see. Some of them, they do analysis, too. That means they tell you why this player did that, why that team won or lost. They gotta study the game, watch the tapes, figure out all the ins and outs. And some of them fellas used to play basketball themselves, so they got that experience to draw on. It takes a lot of know-how, it does.
So, To Sum It Up
So, how much do NBA announcers make? Well, it depends. The regular fellas, they get a decent livin’, eighty thousand, maybe a hundred thousand. The big shots, the ones on the big games, they get way more. And it ain’t easy money, no sir. They gotta work hard, know their stuff, and be able to talk up a storm. It’s a good job if you can get it, though, better than hoein’ the fields, that’s for sure. They seem happy enough doing their thing, talking about basketball all day long. And good for them, I say.
Some other things I heard
I heard that some of them get paid different amounts depending on if they are the main guy or just the helper guy. And some of them fellas get paid more if they work for the TV networks and less if they work for the radio. It’s all a big puzzle, this money business.

Anyway, that’s the long and short of it, as best as I can figure. It ain’t rocket science, but it gives you a pretty good idea of what them NBA announcers are pullin’ in. And remember, it ain’t all about the money, though money is important. It’s about lovin’ the game, knowin’ the game, and bein’ able to tell the story of the game to all the folks watchin’ at home. And that’s a pretty important job, I reckon.
