Okay, so I’ve been trying to get in better shape, and a buddy of mine suggested I try boxing. I’m not looking to become the next Mike Tyson or anything, but I was curious about how many calories boxing actually burns. I mean, you see those guys in the ring, and they’re drenched in sweat, so it’s gotta be a good workout, right?
My Boxing Calorie Burn Experiment
To get to the bottom of this, I decided to do a little experiment. First, I grabbed my old Fitbit. It’s not the fanciest thing, but it gets the job done when it comes to tracking activity. I figured it would give me at least a ballpark idea of my calorie burn.

I signed up for a few boxing classes at a local gym. I chose some group classes which are more fun. The classes usually consisted of a warm-up, some heavy bag work, a few rounds of pad work with the instructor, and then some cool-down exercises. I made sure to wear my Fitbit to every session.
My First Week:
- Session 1: I felt like a fish out of water. But my Fitbit said I burned around 500 calories. Not bad for a newbie!
- Session 2: I was able to put up a better fight on the bag this time. And the Fitbit? 600 calories. Getting better!
- Session 3: We did more sparring in this session, which totally kicked my butt. My Fitbit clocked in at a whopping 700 calories!
I continued this for a few more weeks, and I started to see a pattern. On days with more intense sparring or bag work, I consistently burned more calories. Some days I felt I was just jogging around, I might only burn 400 calories. But on those tough days, I could easily hit 700 or even 800. After weeks, I can say on average, I burned roughly 600 calories per boxing session.
What I Learned
Boxing is a killer workout! It’s not just about throwing punches; it’s a full-body exercise. My arms, legs, and core were always sore after a good session. And I could definitely feel myself getting stronger and having more stamina.
Boxing is an awesome way to torch some serious calories. It kept me motivated and engaged, which is more than I can say for some other workouts I’ve tried. Now I can confidently tell people that boxing can burn a lot of calories, you can get a good workout, improve body fat and have fun at the same time.
If you’re looking for a fun and effective way to burn calories and get in shape, I highly recommend giving boxing a shot. Just be prepared to sweat!
