Okay, so I’ve been getting into tennis lately, and I got curious about how big a tennis court actually is. I mean, I see them all the time, but I never really thought about the dimensions. So, I decided to do a little digging and figure it out for myself.
First, I grabbed my phone and did a quick search. Turns out, there’s a bunch of stuff about “official” sizes and all that. It was a little overwhelming at first, all these numbers and terms.

Figuring Out the Basics
I started simple. What’s the length and width? I found that a standard tennis court is a rectangle. That made sense! The length is the same for singles and doubles, but the width changes. Interesting!
- Length: It is almost 78 feet long. That seemed longer than I expected when I pictured it in my head.
- Width:
- For singles matches, it’s 27 feet wide.
- For doubles, it’s wider, at 36 feet.
So, doubles courts are bigger, which makes sense because you have more players running around.
Diving a Bit Deeper
Then, I wanted to know more about the lines inside the court. I learned about the baselines, service lines, and the center mark. It all contributes to how the game is played. So many lines and area!
I kept reading and discovered that:
- Baselines: are at the very ends of the court.
- Service lines: are in the front of baselines, and that 21 feet from the net.
I realized is that it’s not just about hitting the ball over the net. It’s about hitting it into specific areas of the court, and those areas all have specific measurements!

So, yeah, that’s my little journey into understanding the size of a tennis court. It’s more than just a big rectangle – it’s a carefully measured space designed for a pretty cool game!
