Okay, so I’ve been seeing “f1 wag” all over my socials, and I was like, “What the heck is this?” I’m a bit of a Formula 1 fan, mostly because of the Netflix show, you know, Drive to Survive. It’s super dramatic. But “wag”? That sounded…weird.
So, I started by, you know, Googling it. Just typed in “f1 wag” and boom. Turns out, it stands for “wives and girlfriends” of Formula 1 drivers. Okay, that makes sense. I guess.

Then, I dove into Instagram. That’s where all the pretty pictures are, right? I searched for the hashtag #f1wag and, oh boy, it’s a whole world. I scrolled and scrolled. Lots of pictures of, well, very glamorous women at Formula 1 races. Posing in the paddock, chilling on yachts, wearing designer clothes. You get the picture.
I recognized a few of them. Like, I knew who Kelly Piquet was because she’s dating Max Verstappen, and I’d seen her on Drive to Survive. And I think I saw Carmen Montero Mundt, who’s with George Russell. But honestly, most of them I had no clue.
I spent, I don’t know, maybe an hour just looking at all these pictures. It’s kind of…fascinating? And also a little bit intimidating. Everyone is so perfectly put together. Their hair, their makeup, their outfits…it’s a lot.
I even tried to, like, copy one of their outfits. I had a similar white dress, and I found a red scarf…but it didn’t look quite the same. I definitely didn’t have the designer handbag or the perfect sunglasses. Or the yacht.
My F1 WAG Experiment
- Step 1: Google “f1 wag”. Figure out what it means. Check.
- Step 2: Instagram deep dive. #f1wag. Check.
- Step 3: Try to recreate a look. Semi-check. My version was more “casual Friday” than “Monaco Grand Prix.”
- Step 4: Feel a strange mix of admiration and mild inadequacy. Definitely check.
So, that’s my f1 wag journey. I learned what it means. I saw a whole bunch of pretty pictures. I attempted a fashion experiment (with limited success). And I concluded that it’s a very, very different world than mine. I mean I am a huge fan, and I know it’s nice to sometimes look, but that’s about it, I will stick to enjoying the races!
