Alright, so you wanna watch that there Tennessee football game, huh? It ain’t always easy, like findin’ a good tomato in the grocery store these days. Everything’s so fancy now, gotta have a subscription for this and a channel for that. But lemme tell ya, I figured some things out, watchin’ my grandbabies try to find their cartoons.
Watchin’ the Tennessee Football Game – It Ain’t Rocket Science

First thing’s first, you gotta know who they’re playin’ against. That’s important, like knowin’ if you’re plantin’ corn or beans. Different teams, different places to watch ’em, you see.
- If they’re playin’ a big game, like one of them SEC games, you might find it on ABC or one of them local channels. You know, the ones you get with the rabbit ears on your TV, if you still got one of those things.
- Lots of times, them games are on the SEC Network. Now, that’s a special channel you gotta pay for, like buyin’ fancy fertilizer for your garden. But if you’re a real fan, you probably already got it.
- Sometimes, they hide the games on ESPN or ESPN2. Those fellers think they’re so high and mighty, but they got some good games sometimes. Gotta keep your eyes peeled.
Now, here’s where it gets tricky, like tryin’ to catch a greased pig. These young folks, they like watchin’ everything on their phones and computers. So, some of them games, they’re only on somethin’ called ESPN Plus or SEC Network Plus.
I ain’t gonna lie, I don’t know much about that internet stuff. But my grandson, he showed me. It’s like payin’ for a special box at the movie theater, but you watch it on your phone. If you really wanna see the game and it’s on one of them “plus” channels, well, you gotta bite the bullet and pay up, I reckon.
Findin’ the Game – Like Huntin’ for Wild Mushrooms
Okay, so you know the channels, but how do you know when the game is on? Well, that’s like findin’ a good patch of wild mushrooms. You gotta do some lookin’ around.
You can look in the newspaper, if they still print those things. Or you can go online, ask one of them young folks to help you if you need it. Just type somethin’ like “Tennessee football schedule” or “when does Tennessee play” into that search bar thingy. It’ll pop up, like weeds after a good rain.

And don’t forget, sometimes the games are on different days and times. Some are on Saturday afternoon, like a good old-fashioned picnic. Some are on Friday night, like a hoedown. And some are even on during the week, like you’re workin’ in the field and the radio’s playin’ in the background.
Big Games and Special Games – Like the County Fair
Now, if Tennessee’s playin’ in a real important game, like one of them playoff games, that’s a whole ‘nother story. That’s like the county fair – everybody’s talkin’ about it and it’s probably gonna be on one of the big channels, like ABC, CBS, FOX, or ESPN. They want everybody to see those games, so they put ’em where everyone can find ’em. They’re nationally televised, they say. Sounds fancy, huh?
And sometimes, they play a team that ain’t nobody heard of before, like UTEP or somethin’. Those might be on those “plus” channels I was talkin’ about, ESPN+ or SEC Network+. Or on a streaming channel. My grandson showed me that on his computer one time.
So, to sum it up, watchin’ that Tennessee football game is like bakin’ a cake. You gotta have the right ingredients, you gotta know how long to cook it, and you gotta know where to find the recipe. But once you figure it out, it’s easy as pie.
Remember these things and you’ll find that game:

- Check the local channels first, like ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC.
- Then look at the SEC Network if it’s one of them conference games.
- Don’t forget to look for games on ESPN and ESPN2.
- If you’re desperate, you might have to pay for ESPN Plus or SEC Network Plus. Or use one of them streaming things.
And if all else fails, just ask your neighbor. They probably know more than I do, anyhow. Now, go on and enjoy that game! And don’t forget to cheer loud for the Volunteers, even if they’re losin’ like a hound dog chasin’ a rabbit. That’s what bein’ a fan is all about!
