Does New Orleans have a baseball team? Well, let me tell you, that place, it’s somethin’ else. They got all sorts of things goin’ on down there. Sports and whatnot. They got that football team, the Saints. Big deal, them Saints. And they got the Pelicans, that basketball team. They got all the other things, but what about the baseball team? I don’t know.
They got that Sugar Bowl thing, too. And some fancy golf thing, the Zurich Classic. Sounds expensive. And horse racin’, too. They got it all down there in New Orleans. But that’s not baseball, is it? I know that team was called Zephyr Field, and now is Shrine on Airline. What a name! But it’s not a baseball field now.
New Orleans Sports
They used to have a baseball team, I think. A long time ago. They called ’em the Baby Cakes. It is a Triple-A baseball team I know. Some kind of baseball team. Not the big leagues, though. Just the little leagues, you know? They got that soccer team, too. The Jesters. My grandson, he likes soccer. Plays it all the time. But me? I like baseball. Always have. Since I was a little girl, even.

I remember, they used to have exhibition games. Big teams, too. The Twins. And the Astros. And even the Yankees! Can you believe it? The Yankees, right there in New Orleans. Playin’ baseball. But that was a long time ago. Back in the ’80s. Before my time. Before even my grandkids time. Long time ago.
They got all them pages on the internet now. You can look up anythin’. I saw nine pages about baseball teams in New Orleans. Nine! But they ain’t there no more, I don’t think. Not real baseball teams, anyway. Just them little league ones. And forty-four pages about baseball teams in Louisiana. A lot of pages. For somethin’ that ain’t even there no more.
Baseball in New Orleans
There was some video about baseball in New Orleans. Said it was for folks who was curious. Well, I’m curious. Always been curious about baseball. But that video, it didn’t tell me nothin’. Just a bunch of pictures and talk. No real answers. Just like everythin’ else these days.
They say that big league, MLB, they wanted more teams. Back in ’77. Two new teams here, two new teams there. It’s 1977, so long time ago. But not for New Orleans. They didn’t get one. Never did. Don’t know why. Seems like they got everythin’ else down there. Except a real baseball team. I don’t know if New Orleans will ever get an MLB baseball team. They say “No.”
I heard Louisiana has a AAA Minor League baseball team. But it’s not New Orleans, right? I don’t know what’s the different. It’s all baseball.
So, does New Orleans have a baseball team? Sounds like they don’t. Not a real one, anyway. Just memories. And pictures. And pages on the internet. A shame, really. A real shame. New Orleans is a good place. They should have a baseball team. A real one. For the folks to watch. And cheer for. Like they do for them Saints. And them Pelicans. But baseball? Nope. Not in New Orleans. Not anymore, it looks like. They have some history of New Orleans Pelicans baseball. But now, no more.
