Okay, so, I’ve been wondering about something lately, and I thought I’d share my little investigation with y’all. The question is: Does Nashville have an NBA team?
First off, I started digging around online. I found this page for a team called the “Nashville Aces”. They call themselves a semi-professional basketball team and are part of something called the American Basketball Association.
- So, I thought, “Hmm, interesting, but that’s not the NBA.”
Then I found out about the Memphis Grizzlies. They’re a proper NBA team, but guess what? They’re based in Memphis, not Nashville. They are in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference. And get this, because of some construction at their usual place, they decided to move their training camp to Nashville. How about that?

I learned that Nashville is actually home to four professional sports teams: the Predators (hockey), the Titans (football), the Sounds (baseball), and Nashville SC (soccer). No NBA team there, though. It seems like if I want to watch an NBA game without streaming it, I might have to take a little road trip. But hey, at least there’s a lot of other sports action in Nashville, right?
I checked out an interactive map showing all the NBA teams’ locations and, sure enough, no NBA team in Nashville. It is said that Nashville doesn’t currently have a professional NBA team. I also saw something about a player named Ja Morant, who was visiting the Grizzlies in Memphis. He was a big deal in the NBA draft, but again, that’s Memphis, not Nashville.
So, after all this digging, it looks like Nashville doesn’t have its own NBA team yet. It’s got a semi-pro team and gets a little taste of the NBA when the Grizzlies come to town for training camp, but that’s about it. It is a pity. But I’m still holding out hope! Who knows what the future holds, right?
