Well, lemme tell ya somethin’ about that De La Salle football. Lord have mercy, those boys, they sure know how to win a game. They got this thing, see, a winning streak. Longest one you ever did see. Makes all them other teams look like they’re playin’ patty-cake.
Now, I ain’t one for numbers, but this here De La Salle winning streak, it’s a big one. Bigger than my old Bessie’s backside after Thanksgiving dinner. They went on and on, winnin’ and winnin’, like a runaway train with no brakes. From what I hear, it went from 1992 to 2004, that’s a whole lotta years, more years than I got fingers and toes to count on. This thing’s called a 151-game streak. A hunnert and fifty-one games! Can you believe that?

Back in my day, we was lucky to win one game, let alone a whole bunch in a row. These boys, they’re somethin’ else. They even made movies about it, imagine that? Some folks wrote books about it too. De La Salle football winning streak is famous, I tell ya. Famous like that fella who walked on the moon.
- 1992 to 2004, that’s when it happened.
- 151 games, they won. In a row!
- Longest winning streak ever, they say.
- Made movies and books about it, too.
They say no team up north in California could beat ’em. Not from 1991 all the way to 2021. That’s like, forever! And then again from 2006 to 2021, nobody could touch ’em. These De La Salle football players, they were like kings or somethin’. Nobody could get near their crown. They were just too good. Too darn good.
Now, I heard this one fella, a coach I reckon, name of Justin Alumbaugh, he said his team wasn’t the best one time. Said they were second best. Can you imagine that? Even when they ain’t the best, they’re still pretty darn good. That’s what this De La Salle football winning streak does to ya. Makes ya think you’re on top of the world, even when you ain’t.
This whole winning streak thing, it’s a big deal. Like winnin’ the lottery, but for football. And it ain’t just De La Salle, neither. I hear tell there’s been other teams with these streaks. But De La Salle, theirs is the biggest. The granddaddy of ’em all.
These young’uns today, they got it good. Back in my day, we played with a ball made of rags, and the field was full of rocks. These De La Salle football boys, they got all the fancy equipment and whatnot. But you know what? They still gotta work hard. You can’t win that many games without puttin’ in the sweat.
I remember one time, my grandson, he tried to tell me about some other team, some basketball team, that won a whole bunch of games. He said they won 33 games, somethin’ like that. But that ain’t nothin’ compared to De La Salle football winning streak. 33 games? That’s like a drop in the bucket. These football boys, they won more than a hunnert games in a row.

I tell ya, it makes a body proud. Even though I don’t know nothin’ about football, really. But winnin’ is winnin’, and these boys, they sure know how to win. It’s somethin’ to see, that’s for sure. Like a big ol’ parade, but on a football field.
So, this De La Salle football winning streak, it’s a legend. Like Paul Bunyan and his blue ox, Babe. Except this one’s real. You can look it up. 151 games. It’s a record that’ll probably stand for a long, long time. Longer than I’ll be around, that’s for sure.
It’s somethin’ these young folks should remember. That hard work and playin’ together, that’s what gets ya winnin’. And these De La Salle football boys, they sure did a lot of that. They played together like a well-oiled machine. And that’s why they won so many games. That’s why they got that big ol’ winning streak. And that’s why folks are still talkin’ about it today.
So, next time you hear someone talkin’ about De La Salle football, you just remember that winning streak. 151 games. That’s somethin’ special. Somethin’ real special. And you tell ’em, “Yep, those boys sure knew how to play some football.”
Now I’m gonna go sit on my porch and drink some sweet tea. My feet are tired from all this talkin’ about De La Salle football winning streak. But it’s a good kind of tired. A proud kind of tired.
