Alright, so you wanna know how many days till that football thing, the NFL season, starts, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t rocket science.
When does that football stuff begin?
I heard them fellas on the TV sayin’ somethin’ about the games startin’ up in September. Yeah, September, that’s what they said. They start around the beginnin’ of the month, like the fifth or somethin’. Now, don’t hold me to it, ’cause my memory ain’t what it used to be. But I’m pretty sure it’s early September. You know, when the weather starts gettin’ a little cooler, not so hot and sticky like it is now. That’s when them big ol’ boys start runnin’ around on the field, smashin’ into each other.
What happens before the games start?
Before they start playin’ them real games, the ones that count, they gotta do all that trainin’ stuff. They call it trainin’ camp or somethin’. It’s like when you gotta practice before you go doin’ somethin’ important, ya know? Like, you wouldn’t just go and bake a cake without gettin’ all your stuff together first, right? Same thing with them football players. They gotta practice and practice and practice, gettin’ themselves ready for all that runnin’ and hittin’.
I reckon they start that trainin’ stuff in July, sometime in the middle or end of the month. That’s what I heard on the radio the other day. Them young fellas, the new ones, they start a little earlier. They call ’em rookies, I think. They gotta learn the ropes, I guess. It’s like when you start a new job, you gotta learn how to do things, right? Can’t just jump in and expect to know everything.
How long is that football season anyway?
- Well, it goes on for a good while. Eighteen weeks, they said. Eighteen! That’s a long time to be bangin’ heads, if you ask me.
- And after those eighteen weeks, they have them playoff games, where the best teams fight it out to see who’s the top dog.
- Then comes that big Super Bowl game, the one everyone talks about.
So, if you wanna know exactly how many days till it all starts, you gotta do some countin’. Figure out when it is today, then count how many days till that September date. I ain’t gonna do all that math, my head hurts just thinkin’ about it. You can use your phone or somethin’, those fancy gadgets you young folks have. They can probably tell ya in a heartbeat. Heck, they can probably tell ya who’s gonna win the whole darn thing, too.
What else is there to know?
They got all kinds of games, lots and lots of ’em. Two hundred and seventy-two games, can you believe it? That’s a whole lotta football. I don’t know how them players do it. Runnin’ around like that, gettin’ tackled, must be tough on the body. My old bones would be achin’ somethin’ fierce. But I guess they’re young and strong, and they get paid a whole heap of money to do it.
And if football ain’t your thing, that’s just fine. There’s other stuff to watch, like that hockey game with the fellas skatin’ around on the ice. Or, you can go read somethin’ on that Reddit thing, whatever that is. Me, I like watchin’ those cooking shows sometimes. Or maybe just sittin’ on the porch and watchin’ the birds. But if you’re itchin’ for some football, it’ll be here before you know it. Just gotta be patient. Time flies, especially when you get to be my age. One minute it’s spring, the next it’s fall and them football players are at it again. So don’t you worry, it’ll be here soon enough.

One last thing, when that football starts, Kansas city plays first. They were the best last year I think, so they get to go first.
