Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Can-Am baseball league, ya know, the one them fellas play. I ain’t no expert, mind you, but I hear things, see things, and I can tell ya what I know. It’s baseball, plain and simple. Boys hittin’ balls, runnin’ around, tryin’ to score. Nothin’ too fancy, ya hear?
What is this Can-Am League anyway? From what I gather, it used to be its own thing, the Canadian-American Association, they called it. Played for a good long while, from 2005 to 2019, they say. Then, poof! Gone. Joined up with another league, Frontier League, I think it was. Now, it seems like it’s just a name they use for different baseball things. Sometimes it’s for old guys playin’, sometimes it’s tournaments for young fellas, it’s all a bit confusing if ya ask me.
Senior Baseball, that’s somethin’ I saw somethin’ ’bout a schedule for 2024. Said somethin’ ’bout senior baseball. Guess that means the older fellas, huh? Probably got grandkids runnin’ around themselves. They post the scores and stuff online, on somethin’ called Twitter, and on their website, under somethin’ called ‘results tab’ . I don’t mess with that internet stuff much, too complicated for an old gal like me. But the youngsters, they seem to like it.
- So, they got this senior league.
- And then there’s tournaments.
- And it ain’t always the same thing. Confusin’, ain’t it?
Tournaments and such They got these tournaments, too. For the young’uns and the not-so-young’uns. Men playin’ ball, that’s what it is. They use wooden bats sometimes, sometimes metal ones. Got different rules for different ages, ya know, like how they do. Little fellas got their rules, bigger fellas got theirs. Heard somethin’ ‘bout different bats too. Big words I can’t even say. Wood bat, wood composite bats, BBCOR…too much for my old head to remember.
Games and scores If ya wanna know who’s playin’ and who’s winnin’, they got this live score page, they say. I ain’t never seen it, but I heard it’s on that internet thingy. Shows ya the scores, who’s up, who’s down. All that jazz. Sounds like a lot of fuss to me, but folks seem to like keepin’ track, I guess.
It ended, then what? That Can-Am League, the one they had for years, it ended in 2019. Fifteen years they played, then it was done. Joined up with that other league, like I said. So, when ya hear Can-Am baseball now, it could mean a bunch of different things. Could be them old-timers playin’, could be a tournament, could be somethin’ else altogether. Ya just gotta pay attention, I reckon.
It’s just baseball, at the end of the day Now, I don’t know all the fancy details, and I don’t much care neither. It’s baseball. Boys throwin’ balls, hittin’ balls, catchin’ balls. Runnin’ around tryin’ to score more than the other fellas. Been that way since I was a young’un, and I reckon it’ll be that way long after I’m gone. So, whether it’s Can-Am this or Can-Am that, it’s all just baseball to me. And that’s good enough for me.
