Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into NBA 2K23 lately, and like many of you, I was wondering if it’s even possible to enjoy the game without dropping a ton of cash on VC (Virtual Currency). You know, to actually build a decent MyPlayer or MyTeam without feeling like I’m emptying my wallet. So, I decided to really put it to the test. Here’s how it went down.
The Grind Begins: MyCareer
First, I rolled up a new MyPlayer. I went with a build I thought would be fun, not necessarily some meta-OP build. I figured, if I’m going to be grinding, I might as well enjoy the process, right?

I started off, obviously, with pretty low stats. The early games were rough. I mean, really rough. My guy felt slow, his shots were clanking, and I was getting blocked left and right. But, I stuck with it.
- I focused on playing my role, setting screens, grabbing rebounds, and making the extra pass. Anything to get that teammate grade up.
- I made sure to hit up the team practices. Those drills, as repetitive as they are, give you valuable badge progression and some extra VC.
- I watched a lot of other player’s videos.
Slowly but surely, things started to improve. I started earning more VC per game, my attributes went up (even if it felt glacial), and I started getting more playing time.
MyTeam Adventures: No Money Spent
Next, I decided to tackle MyTeam, the mode where it feels really tempting to spend money. But, I was determined.
- Domination is your best friend, and it offer pretty good rewards for just playing games, and you’ll learn the mechanics of your cards in the process.
- I started working through the single-player modes.
- Triple Threat Offline and Clutch Time Offline are also great for earning rewards and getting used to different players.
I focused on completing challenges and agendas. These give you packs, MT (MyTeam currency), and tokens, which you can use to get some pretty decent players.
The Results? Patience Pays Off
So, after a few weeks of solid grinding, where am I at?
- MyCareer: My player is now a respectable starter, I Learned different experiences and some skills, and I’m actually enjoying the games. I haven’t spent a dime on VC.
- MyTeam: My team is far from god-tier, but I’ve got a solid lineup of players I earned through gameplay. I can compete online, even if I’m not winning every game.
The bottom line? Yes, you absolutely can play NBA 2K23 without spending money in 2024. But it takes time, patience, and a willingness to grind. You have to be okay with not having the best player or the best team right away. But honestly, the journey of building something from nothing is pretty rewarding in itself.
