Alright, let’s chew the fat about this fightin’ stuff, you know, like that boxin’ and that… whatchamacallit… UFC. Folks keep jabberin’ on about which one’s more dangerous, like tryin’ to figure out if a snake or a scorpion’s gonna get ya worse. Well, lemme tell ya what I heard and what I reckon.

Boxing, that ol’ punchin’ game, seems kinda straightforward, right? Two fellas, standin’ in a square, just throwin’ fists. But, shoot, I heard some smarty-pants college folks did a study, yeah, a real study, and they found out that more boxers get knocked out cold than them UFC fellas. Seven outta a hundred boxers get their lights punched out, compared to only four UFC guys. That’s a lot, ain’t it? See, in boxin’, all they do is aim for the head, bang-bang-bang, like hammerin’ a nail. And if ya get knocked down, they give ya a breather, then let ya get banged up some more. That just ain’t right.
- More head trauma in boxing
- Knockouts are more common in boxing
Now, this UFC, that’s a whole different kettle of fish. They got punchin’, sure, but they also kickin’, grapplin’, and twistin’ each other like pretzels. It’s like a bar brawl with rules, I tell ya. Heard it ain’t just the head they’re aimin’ for, they go for the whole shebang, legs, arms, the whole darn body. So, maybe they don’t get knocked out as much, but their bodies get beat up somethin’ fierce. More hurt overall, I reckon, just spread out all over instead of all in the head.
Think of it like this: boxin’ is like gettin’ hit in the head with a hammer over and over, while UFC is like gettin’ tossed around in a washing machine full of rocks. Both sound bad, real bad, but in different ways.
Then there’s this talk about people dyin’ from fightin’. Lord have mercy! Heard tell that since way back when, more than twenty fellas died from this UFC stuff, some right there in the ring, durin’ official fights. That’s scary, real scary. Makes you think twice ’bout lettin’ your young’uns go watchin’ that stuff, let alone doin’ it. Makes an old woman like me wanna hide under the covers, I tell ya.
But here’s the kicker, they say for regular folks, just learnin’ to throw a punch or two, boxin’ might be a tad safer than UFC. Guess it’s ’cause you ain’t learnin’ all them fancy, dangerous moves right off the bat. But if you go and try to make a livin’ outta fightin’, boxin’ might be worse in the long run. All them hits to the head, year after year… that can’t be good for your noggin. Like beatin’ on a melon till it’s mush.
So, which is worse? Dang if I know for sure. Seems like boxin’ is more likely to scramble your brains, while UFC is more likely to break every other bone in your body. And if you’re gonna go pro, well, either way you’re lookin’ at a whole heap of hurt.

It ain’t for the faint of heart, that’s for sure. Me? I’d rather stick to watchin’ the chickens in the yard, less chance of gettin’ a black eye or a broken arm that way. You young folks can go on and beat each other up if you want, but this old lady’s gonna stay right here on the porch, safe and sound.
And another thing, they say that Jiu Jitsu stuff is safer than both of ’em. No punchin’ or kickin’, just wrestlin’ around on the ground. Sounds like a bunch of silliness to me, but hey, if it keeps folks from gettin’ their heads bashed in, I guess it ain’t all bad. Still, seems like a waste of time if you ain’t learnin’ how to throw a good punch, just in case, ya know? You never know when you might need to defend yourself from a rabid raccoon or a grumpy goose.
Anyways, that’s my two cents on the whole thing. Take it or leave it, I don’t care. Just try to stay safe out there, y’hear? The world’s a dangerous enough place without goin’ around lookin’ for trouble in a fightin’ ring.
