Well now, lemme tell ya somethin’ about these two fellas, Curtis Samuel and Deebo Samuel. They sure got folks wonderin’ if they’re kin, ’cause they got the same last name and both play football, but I can tell ya right now, they ain’t related by blood. Ain’t no family connection there, no siree.
Now, both of these boys play in the NFL, which is somethin’ to be proud of. Curtis, he plays for the Washington Commanders, and Deebo, well, he’s with the San Francisco 49ers. They both catch them footballs and run like the wind, but as far as bein’ family goes, that ain’t the case.

It’s a common mistake folks make, seein’ two people with the same last name and thinkin’ they must be kin. But sometimes, that’s just how the world works. Happens all the time, especially in big ol’ leagues like the NFL, where you got all kinds of folks with the same names, but they ain’t related at all. Now, Curtis and Deebo Samuel? Nope, not family, just two guys with the same last name.
But let me tell ya somethin’, even though they ain’t blood relatives, these two sure do share a lot in common when it comes to how they play the game. Both of ’em fast, real fast. Like lightning, I tell ya. And they don’t just run, they make them defenders look silly tryin’ to catch up. I reckon that’s what makes ’em so good at what they do – speed and agility.
They got a way of dodgin’ around people, makin’ them miss with their quick moves. It’s like they got eyes in the back of their heads or somethin’. When you watch ’em run, it’s almost like they’re dancin’ on the field, just weaving through folks like they ain’t even there. I’ve seen both of ’em make plays that get folks talkin’ all week long. Real showstoppers, them two.
Now, you might be wonderin’ what else they got in common, besides the last name and all. Well, they both have had their fair share of ups and downs with injuries, too. Curtis Samuel, for example, had a rough time in 2021. He couldn’t stay on the field for too long, with injuries poppin’ up here and there. Turf toe, that’s what they called it. Had him sidelined for a bit, but he’s back at it now. And Deebo, well, he ain’t had it easy neither. He had some issues with his pec too, but he’s been tougher than a two-dollar steak and keeps on goin’.
But don’t let that fool ya. Both these boys have made a name for themselves. Deebo, especially, had a breakout year in 2021. He sure did! He was everywhere on the field for the 49ers, racking up yards and touchdowns like nobody’s business. He even got named to the First-Team All-Pro squad, which is no small feat. And Curtis, well, he’s been a steady presence for Washington. Ain’t no slouch himself, that’s for sure.
Now, as for where they came from, well, that’s a little different too. Deebo Samuel, he’s from South Carolina. Grew up with a big ol’ family, eight siblings in total. I reckon that’s a lot of mouths to feed, but sounds like a fun time. His step-mom, Precious Martin, always said they were a close-knit bunch. Always supportin’ each other, pushin’ each other to be the best they could be. And Curtis, well, he’s from the other side of the world in Ohio, but he’s got his own roots that keep him grounded.

But at the end of the day, folks, they might not be family, but they sure are a couple of fine football players. Fast as the wind, tough as nails, and smart on the field. So next time you see one of ’em runnin’ across that field, remember – they ain’t related, but they sure got the same last name, and they both make football look easy.
