Okay, so I was super curious about how many times teams have actually pulled off a “three-peat” in the NBA – you know, winning the championship three years in a row. It sounds almost impossible, right? So, I dove in to find out.
My Research Journey Started
First, I hit up Google. Just a simple search, nothing fancy. I typed in something like “NBA three-peats,” and boom, tons of articles and lists popped up.

I started skimming through a few of them, and it quickly became clear that this isn’t something that happens every other year. It’s pretty rare!
Sifting Through the Information
I noticed a few names kept popping up: Celtics, Bulls, Lakers. Those were the usual suspects, the teams I kind of expected to see.
- The Boston Celtics: These guys were insane! They won eight – EIGHT! – championships in a row in the ’50s and ’60s. You can count that as two three-peats, back to back even four-peat.
- The Minneapolis Lakers: Also they did it in the 1950s.
- The Chicago Bulls: They did it twice in the ’90s, and obviously, that’s the Michael Jordan era.
- The Los Angeles Lakers:They pulled it off in the early 2000s, and everybody knows Kobe and Shaq.
Putting it All Together
So, after going through all this, I figured out that there are only five, maybe six, clear three-peats in NBA history:
It hasn’t happened for a very long time. So the next time someone brags about their favorite team, I can drop some knowledge and be like, “Yeah, but have they won three in a row?” I’ll probably get some eye rolls, but hey, it’s a fun fact!
