Alright, so today I decided to get a little creative with my workout and try this “punch numbers boxing” thing I saw online. Basically, it’s about throwing punches in a specific sequence, calling out numbers as you go. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, let’s see how it went.
Getting Started
First, I cleared some space in my living room – didn’t want to knock over any lamps or anything. I put on some workout clothes, you know, the usual stuff, and queued up a high-energy playlist. Gotta have some good tunes to keep you pumped, am I right?

The Number System
So, the idea is each punch has a number:
- 1 – Jab (Left hand for orthodox stance, right hand for southpaw)
- 2 – Cross (Right hand for orthodox, left for southpaw)
- 3 – Left Hook (Switch for southpaw)
- 4 – Right Hook (Switch for southpaw)
- 5 – Left Uppercut(Switch for southpaw)
- 6 – Right Uppercut (Switch for southpaw)
You can add more, like overhands and body shots, but I figured I’d stick to the basics for my first try.
The Workout
I started slow, just getting the hang of the numbering. “One, two, one, two…” It felt a bit silly at first, shouting numbers in my living room, but I got into it. I focused on keeping my stance right – knees bent, hands up, core engaged. That’s boxing 101, folks.
Then, I started picking up the pace. “One, three, two! Four, one, six!” I mixed up the combinations, trying to keep it unpredictable. It’s actually pretty challenging to keep track of the numbers and throw the punches correctly, especially when you start getting tired. My arms started burning, and I was definitely sweating.
I did a few rounds, maybe three minutes each, with short breaks in between. I even tried to visualize an opponent, which, I gotta admit, made it more fun. It also forced me to use my footwork, dodging imaginary attacks. I’m no boxer. This is just some fun home workout!
The Aftermath
Honestly, it was a pretty good workout! I felt like I got my heart rate up, and my arms were definitely feeling it. Plus, it was kind of fun, like a little game. I can see how this would be a good way to improve your coordination and reaction time, too.

I’ll probably try this again, maybe add some more complex combinations next time. Or even look up some videos for better technique. Who knows, maybe I’ll become a living room boxing champ! Just kidding… mostly.
