Okay, so I’ve been seeing “MMA” pop up everywhere lately, and honestly, I had no clue what it was. I mean, I had a vague idea – fighting, right? But I wanted to know more, so I decided to do a little digging. Here’s what I did and what I found out, my way!
My Little Investigation into MMA
First, I hit up Google. You know, the usual. Just typed in “what is MMA” and BOOM, tons of stuff came up.

I started clicking around on different websites. Some were super complicated, with all these fancy terms I didn’t get. Others were a bit easier to understand. I quickly realized MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts. Sounds intense, huh?
Then, I decided to watch some videos. I figured seeing it in action would help me understand better. So I went over to YouTube and searched for “MMA fights.”
- I found some highlight reels – those were pretty cool! Lots of action.
- I also stumbled upon some beginner’s guides, which were helpful.
I watched a bunch of different fights, and I started to see what “mixed martial arts” really means. It’s not just one style of fighting, like boxing or karate. It’s a mix of everything!
From what I gathered, fighters use techniques from:
- Boxing
- Kickboxing
- Judo
- Wrestling
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (whatever!)
- And probably a bunch more!
I learned that they can punch, kick, grapple, and do all sorts of crazy moves on the ground. It’s pretty wild to watch!

So, after spending a few hours going down this rabbit hole, I feel like I have a much better grasp of what MMA is. It’s basically a sport where people with different fighting backgrounds come together and battle it out using a combination of skills. It’s intense, it’s exciting, and it’s definitely not something I’ll be trying anytime soon! But I have way more respect for the skill those athletes have, for sure.
