Okay, so the other day, I was watching a basketball game with a buddy, and he was like, “Hey, how many periods are in an NBA game anyway?” And I was like, “Uh…” I thought I knew, but I wasn’t 100% sure. So, I decided to do a little digging to get the facts straight, and I figured I’d share what I found!
My Little Research Journey
First, I just grabbed my phone and did a quick search. I mean, that’s what everyone does, right? I typed in something like “how many periods in NBA basketball” and boom – a bunch of stuff popped up.

What I found out is that NBA games have four quarters. That’s the standard. It’s not like some games have more or less. Every single NBA game is divided into four parts.
- NBA: 4 quarters
I also saw some stuff about other types of basketball games, just to get the full picture. These are the result.
- College basketball(NCAA): 2 halves
- High school basketball:4 quarters
Each quarter in NBA lasts 12 minutes. I thought that was kind of *, yeah, there you have it! Four quarters in an NBA game, and now we both know for sure!
