Alright, so I’ve been on this NBA YoungBoy wave lately, and I wanted to document how I actually got into his music. It wasn’t some overnight thing, you know?
The First Encounter
I remember first hearing YoungBoy, it had to be like, 2017? My younger cousin was always bumping him. At first, I was like, “Man, this is just noise.” I didn’t get it. I was heavy into more lyrical stuff at the time, so the whole melodic, kinda raw style of YoungBoy didn’t click.

The Slow Burn
- The YouTube Algorithm: Honestly, YouTube’s algorithm played a HUGE part. I’d be listening to something else, and then a YoungBoy track would pop up in the suggested videos. I’d skip it at first, but it kept happening.
- The Gym Motivation: I started noticing a lot of people playing YoungBoy in the gym. At the gym,I need that energy, that aggressive * beats were hard, and even though I wasn’t catching all the lyrics at first, the energy was undeniable.
Diving Deeper
Then, one day, I was going through some stuff, you know, real-life problems. I was feeling down, and I randomly clicked on a YoungBoy video. I think it was “Lonely Child”.
And that was it.
Something about the raw emotion in his voice, the pain, it just connected with me. It wasn’t just noise anymore. I started to listen to the lyrics, to the stories he was telling.I started to appreciate his voice more.
Full-Blown Fan
From there, I went down the rabbit hole. I started checking out his older mixtapes, like 38 Baby and AI YoungBoy. I realized this dude had a HUGE catalog, and there was so much variety in his sound. Some songs were super aggressive, some were melodic and heartfelt, some were just straight-up bangers.
I started to find myself relating more and more with YoungBoy,even followed him on social media.
Today
Now, I’m bumping YoungBoy on the regular. I’ve got my favorite albums, my go-to tracks for different moods. I’ve even tried to put some of my friends onto him, with mixed results, haha. Some get it, some don’t.

But that’s the thing about music, right? It’s personal. What connects with one person might not connect with another. For me, YoungBoy’s music hit me at the right time, in the right way. It’s real, it’s raw, and it’s got that energy that I need sometimes.
So yeah, that’s my YoungBoy * from not understanding the hype,to really being a big fan.
