Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter online about betting on NFL preseason games. Some folks are saying it’s a goldmine, others are saying it’s a total crapshoot. I figured, why not dive in and see for myself? So, that’s what I did. Here’s how it went down.
Getting Started
First, I needed to, you know, actually understand what I was getting into. I’m no sports betting expert, so I spent a good chunk of time just reading up on how preseason games work. It’s a whole different beast than the regular season. You’ve got rookies trying to prove themselves, starters barely playing, and coaches experimenting with all sorts of crazy plays. It’s chaotic!

My First Bet (and Mistake!)
I decided to start small. Really small. I found a game where I thought I had a good read on things. One team had a solid backup quarterback, and the other team was… well, let’s just say they weren’t looking so hot. I put down a tiny bet, feeling pretty confident. Famous last words, right?
Yeah, I lost. Turns out, the “solid” backup quarterback had a terrible night, and the team I thought would lose ended up pulling off some surprise plays. Lesson learned: Preseason is unpredictable, even when you think you’ve got it figured out.
Adjusting My Strategy
After that initial stumble, I knew I needed to change things up. I started focusing less on the teams themselves and more on these things:
- Coaching Tendencies: Some coaches are known for taking the preseason seriously, while others just use it for pure experimentation. I dug into past preseason records and tried to get a feel for each coach’s approach.
- Quarterback Rotations: Knowing who’s going to be under center, and for how long, is HUGE. A team might have a great starter, but if he’s only playing a quarter, that doesn’t tell you much.
- News and Injury Reports: I started scouring for any little tidbit of information I could find. Who’s injured? Who’s trying to earn a roster spot? These things can have a big impact.
- Betting line: I check the numbers of betting line, that is important too.
Some (Small) Wins!
With this new approach, I started to see some (very small) wins. I wasn’t getting rich, but I was definitely learning a lot. I found that focusing on those key factors – coaching, quarterbacks, and news – made a big difference. I had a few bets where I correctly predicted that a team with a strong second-string QB would outperform expectations. It felt good to see my research paying off, even in a small way.
The Big Takeaway
So, should you bet on NFL preseason games? Honestly, it’s a gamble. It’s not for the faint of heart, and it’s definitely not a way to make a quick buck. But, if you’re willing to put in the work, do your research, and keep your bets small, it can be a fun and (potentially) slightly profitable way to learn more about the game. Just don’t expect to retire off your winnings! I sure didn’t, but I did learn a ton, and that’s a win in my book.
For me?I think that is all. No more money on my account, haha!
