Okay, so I was really curious about something the other day: when exactly did Wisconsin stop having a Major League Baseball team? I mean, we’ve got the Brewers now, but I knew there was a gap somewhere in history. So, I decided to do a little digging. It’s kind of a weird thing to get obsessed with, but hey, that’s me!
First, I just went straight to a simple search. Just typed in “when did wisconsin drop baseball” into the search bar. You know, the basic, lazy approach. I figured I’d get a quick answer that way, no problem.

The results were a bit all over the place at first. Lots of stuff about the Milwaukee Brewers current history, which wasn’t what I was after. I needed to refine my search a bit. I needed to get more specific to find the core problem.
Digging Deeper
I added some more terms, like “MLB team history Wisconsin” and “Milwaukee baseball teams before Brewers.” That started to narrow things down. I started seeing mentions of the other Milwaukee Brewers, the old American League team. Bingo! That was a clue.
- I found out the original Milwaukee Brewers were only around for ONE season, back in 1901. Talk about a short run!
- Then, I learned they moved and became the St. Louis Browns. That was the key piece of the puzzle.
So, it wasn’t really that Wisconsin “dropped” baseball, it’s that their team, the original Brewers, moved to St. Louis after the 1901 * the St. Louis Browns team moved and was renamed.
It’s like, the team just up and left! Can you imagine that happening today? Fans would go nuts! But, back then, I guess things were a lot more fluid.
Then it all made sense that the current Milwaukee Brewers are an expension team that was made in 1970.
Anyway, that’s the story of my little research adventure. Wisconsin didn’t “drop” baseball, their original team just moved * is all clear in my mind now. Case closed!
