Okay, so I recently started getting into tennis. I love the sport, but figuring out what to wear to practice was a bit of a puzzle for me at first. I mean, you want to look like you know what you’re doing, right? But it’s also super important to be comfy and able to move around without feeling restricted.
So, the first thing I did was raid my closet. I pulled out all my workout gear, thinking surely I’d find something suitable in there. I tried on a bunch of different outfits, jumping around my living room like a maniac to see how they felt. Let me tell you, some of those outfits were a no-go right off the bat. Too tight, too loose, or just plain weird feeling when I swung my arms like I was hitting a ball.

After my little home experiment, I had a few potential outfits. But I also realized I might need to invest in some actual tennis clothes. I’m not talking about going pro here, but I figured having at least one proper tennis skirt or shorts set wouldn’t hurt.
The next step was hitting the stores. I went to a few sports shops and tried on a ton of stuff. Here’s what I learned: breathability is key. You’re going to sweat, especially if you’re practicing hard. So, I looked for clothes made from those moisture-wicking fabrics. They really do make a difference.
Also, I paid attention to how the clothes fit. I wanted something that was snug but not constricting. I practiced my swing in the fitting room, which probably looked ridiculous, but hey, I had to make sure I could move properly. Oh, and pockets! Gotta have pockets for those extra tennis balls.
Here is what I wear now:
- Tops: Usually, I go for a breathable, moisture-wicking shirt. Sometimes it’s a tank top, other times a T-shirt, depending on the weather.
- Bottoms: If it’s warm, I love my tennis skirt. It has built-in shorts, which is great. On cooler days, I’ll wear some athletic leggings or even my comfy joggers.
- Shoes: I got myself a pair of actual tennis shoes. They have good support, which is super important when you’re running around the court.
- Socks: I never realized how important socks were until I started playing tennis. I go for thicker, cushioned ones to avoid blisters.
- Extras: A hat or visor is a must for sunny days, and I always bring a light jacket or sweatshirt in case it gets chilly.
In the end, I feel way more confident on the court now that I have the right gear. It’s not about looking fancy; it’s about feeling good and being able to play my best. Plus, I think I look pretty darn sporty, if I do say so myself!
So, that’s my tennis clothes journey. I hope this helps anyone out there who’s just starting and feeling a bit lost about what to wear. Trust me, once you find what works for you, it makes a world of difference!
