Okay, so I went to a boxing match last night, and let me tell you, figuring out what to wear was a bit of a head-scratcher. I mean, it’s not every day you go to one of these things, right?
First, I rummaged through my closet, trying to find something that screamed “sporty but not sloppy.” I knew I didn’t want to look like I was going to the gym, but I also didn’t want to show up in a ball gown. After a good twenty minutes of trying on different outfits, I settled on a pair of dark-wash jeans that fit just right and a simple, but not boring, black T-shirt. I mean it is casual event, but I am not going to do my workout at there.

Comfortable

Choosing shoes was the next hurdle. High heels were obviously out of the question. I needed something I could stand in for a few hours without my feet screaming in agony. Also, I am not a professional boxer, so I don’t need to wear special boxing shoes. I opted for my trusty sneakers. They’re comfy, and they wouldn’t look too out of place.

Then, I remembered reading somewhere that it’s a good idea to show support for a fighter if you have a favorite. I didn’t really have a dog in the fight, but I did have this cool cap I’d picked up at a sports store a while back. I figured, why not? It would add a little something extra to the outfit, also it can help me to avoid direct eye contact with others. If I want to take a nap, it is also perfect for covering my face.
A Touch of Class

I also grabbed a light jacket. You never know how chilly it might get in those arenas. Plus, I thought it might come in handy if I needed to make a quick exit. You know, just in case things got a little too rowdy.

Finally, I checked myself in the mirror one last time. I think I looked pretty good, all things considered. Not too fancy, not too casual. Just a regular guy, ready to watch some boxing and eat a hot dog, and maybe spill some beer on myself. In the end, it wasn’t about what I was wearing. It was about being there, soaking up the atmosphere, and watching two people beat the crap out of each other. And I have to say, it was a pretty awesome experience, despite my outfit.
Oh, and one last thing. I saw a few people wearing tank tops and flip-flops. I wouldn’t recommend it. It just doesn’t seem right for a boxing match, you know? You want to show a little respect for the sport, even if you’re just a spectator. My jeans, black T-shirt, cap and jacket make me feel so comfortable and I can’t wait to watch the next boxing match.
