Okay, so, I’ve been digging into this whole NFL playoffs thing, trying to figure out how many points have been scored in total. Sounds simple enough, right? But let me tell you, it turned into a bit of a rabbit hole.
First off, I had to get a handle on how the playoffs even work. Turns out, 14 teams make it in – 7 from each conference. It’s a single-elimination deal, so each game really counts. I started by looking at the most recent playoffs, you know, the 2023 season, to get some numbers.

I stumbled upon some info about the Green Bay Packers. Apparently, they scored 69 points in the 2023 playoffs. That’s some serious scoring. Then I found out that the NFL champion, whoever that was, scored over 31 points in five of the seven Super Bowls between 2017 and 2023. Wow, that’s a lot of points in the big game.
I was curious about individual players too. There’s this guy, Josh Jacobs, who apparently gained 107 yards and scored a touchdown for six games straight, helping the Packers clinch a playoff spot. Pretty impressive, huh?
Then I tried to make a list of teams playing in the playoffs.
- No. 2 seed Buffalo Bills
- No. 7 seed Denver Broncos
But the list was incomplete, so I got stuck there. I also found that four teams were eliminated from playoff contention in Week 16, and by Week 17, the playoff field was “more than halfway set.” Whatever that means.
So, honestly, I didn’t get a final, solid number for the total points scored in all NFL playoffs ever. The information I found was kind of all over the place, bits and pieces here and there. It seems like it would take forever to add up all the scores from every playoff game in history.
I guess if I really wanted to, I could go through each year, each game, and tally up the scores. But man, that sounds like a massive project. Maybe I’ll leave that for someone with way more time on their hands. It’s been a fun little dive into the numbers, but I think I’m gonna tap out for now. It’s definitely more complicated than I thought it would be!
