So, the other day, I got this random thought stuck in my head: how much does a tennis ball actually weigh? I mean, I’ve been playing tennis on and off for years, but I never really stopped to think about the ball itself. So, I decided to find out!
My Little Experiment
First, I grabbed one of my tennis balls. It was a pretty standard, nothing fancy, used a couple of times already. I’ve got a bunch of them that I use regularly, so, this one seems like a good choice.

Then, I went to the kitchen and used my digital kitchen scale, you know, the one I usually use for baking. I made sure it was set to grams ’cause that’s what I saw people used when talking about this online.
I placed the tennis ball right in the middle of the scale. I stared at it for a few seconds, waiting for the final result.
Guess what? My tennis ball came in at 58 grams! It was so simple.
I also did some digging on the internet after my little experiment. Apparently, I learned that the big shots in tennis say a ball should be between 56.0 and 59.4 grams. That’s, like, their official rule or something. So, my ball is right within that range. Good to know!
- Went to my sports bag and pulled out a tennis ball.
- Used my kitchen scale to weigh it.
- Got a reading of 58 grams.
- Looked it up online and found out that’s perfectly normal.
Honestly, it was kind of cool to actually measure it myself and see it firsthand. I always just took it for granted, but now I know for sure. It’s not like it’s a big deal or anything, but hey, it’s always fun to learn something new, right? So, next time you’re playing tennis, maybe you’ll think about this too!
