Okay, so I saw this thing online about making your mouth sound like an F1 car, and I just had to try it. Seriously, who wouldn’t want to make those awesome engine sounds?
First, I tried just messing around with my lips and tongue, trying to make any sort of car noise. I started with some basic “vroom vroom” sounds, but it sounded more like a sad lawnmower than a race car. Total fail. I knew I needed a better strategy, so I went back online and dug a little deeper. I found some stuff about using a soda can, but I didn’t want to mess with that.

Then, I stumbled upon this one idea that sounded promising—something about using the back of your throat. I started experimenting with making noises from my throat, trying to create that low rumble like an engine. I tried to make those gurgling kind of sounds, vibrating my vocal cords to get that deep, throaty sound, and I started to get somewhere! It was still pretty rough, but definitely more engine-like than my first try.
After messing around for a while, I started to get the hang of it. Here’s what I figured out:
- Start with a low hum: I hummed as low as I could, almost like I was trying to make a buzzing sound in the back of my throat.
- Add some rasp: I tried to make the humming sound rougher, like a real engine. This involved kind of scratching the back of my throat a little, but not too much, obviously.
- Vary the pitch: By changing how tight my throat was, I could make the sound go up and down, like a car revving up and shifting gears.
It took a bunch of practice, and I probably sounded ridiculous to anyone listening. I kept making these weird noises, trying to get it just right. But hey, I was determined!
Finally, I started to get something that actually sounded like an F1 car, at least a little bit. It was this low, rumbly sound that I could make higher and lower. I could even do that “vroom” sound when a car shifts gears!
I’m still not perfect, but I can do a pretty decent F1 car impression now. I was making those sounds all day, driving my wife crazy! It’s not exactly like the real thing, but it’s close enough to be fun. I practiced in the car, in the shower, even while I was making dinner. It is way more fun than I thought it would be.
So, if you’re bored and want to try something silly, give it a shot. You might surprise yourself! Just be prepared to sound a little crazy while you’re figuring it out. And maybe don’t do it in public, unless you want some really strange looks.

Anyway, that’s my story of how I learned to make F1 car sounds with my mouth. Hope you had a laugh, and maybe even learned something. Go out there and make some noise!
